About

Jump Cut is a brand new film festival hosted by two Bristol based Media Groups: UBFS (University of Bristol Filmmaking Society) and Studiospace Film, and sponsored by Aspect Film & Video. Our aim is to offer a platform for students and young filmmakers (18-30) to showcase their work, be judged by and meet industry professionals, network and be recognised for their achievements, while also encouraging new filmmakers to start making films.

New (but interested!) filmmakers are reminded that there are intermediate and beginners’ awards and entries will be judged according to their creativity rather than the technical resources that the entrants have used. In fact entries can even be filmed on handicams, mobile phones; anything that you feel comfortable using to make your first film.

The event is held in May each year at Watershed in Bristol, giving our entrants the wonderful opportunity to have their work screened in a fantastic Bristol film venue. The competition will culminate in the Awards at Zero Degrees, another great Bristol venue (not to mention great beer).
